ART IS ESSENTIAL is a program for artists working in all mediums and at every experience level.  The goal is to create high-quality, artist-driven, and community-informed public art.  We hope to provide opportunities for both funding and exposure for artists who may not have previously considered or had access to this type of arts practice.  The resulting projects will be temporary public artworks.  See below for a summary of the project timeline.

Group 1 – CLOSED

Round 1: Ideas (45 awards of $1,000 each) –CLOSED
Awardees announced March 1, 2021.

Round 2: Impacts (10 awards of $1,500 each) –CLOSED
Eligible to artists who received awards in Group 1, Round 1 only.
Deadline April 14, 2021.
The committee selected 10 awardees in the summer of 2021 to continue to Round 3.

Round 3: Implementation (3 awards of $30,000 each) – CLOSED
Eligible to artists who received awards in Group 1, Round 2 only.
Proposals submitted in the summer of 2021.  Artist interviews and awardees  announced in the fall 2021.  The committee selected three artists to complete projects in 2022.

Group 2

Round 1: Ideas (up to 55 awards of $1,000 each)
Application period to open early 2022.
Awardees to be notified in spring 2022.

Round 2: Impacts (10 awards of $1,500 each)
Eligible to artists who received awards in Group 2, Round 1 only.
Application period for Round 1 recipients to open in spring 2022..
The committee will select 10 Awardees to be announced summer 2022.

Round 3: Implementation (3 awards of $30,000 each)
Eligible to artists who received awards in Group 2, Round 2 only.
Proposals to be submitted in summer/fall 2022.  The committee will select three artists to complete projects by the end of 2023.
